“I have been extremely happy with our decision to move to SALTO for our locking system. It has proven to be a flexible, reliable and durable system, with seemingly unlimited potential for growth and expansion.”

What did they need?

The Four Seasons Hotel Washington DC sought an upgrade for its aging and obsolete access control system. They sought an electronic access control solution that was easy to install and manage and would meet the needs of the variety of areas throughout the hotel: 200-plus guest rooms, back of house operations and amenities like the pool and fitness center.

Key benefits

SALTO products in use throughout the Four Seasons Hotel Washington DC include XS4 Escutcheons, SALTO GEO Cylinders, XS4 RIM Panic Bars, XS4 Readers and Controllers. The system necessitated very little training.

The SALTO offline electronic locks in use at the Four Seasons Hotel Washington DC operate using the innovative Salto Virtual Network (SVN). SVN allows stand-alone locks to read, receive, and write information via an encrypted and secure data-on-card system that utilizes the capabilities of RFID read/write technology. With SVN, all access data is stored on and distributed by its operating smartcard (or other RFID device). When presenting a smartcard to an offline stand-alone door, not only does this control access rights to that door but, thanks to two-way communication, the door also writes data like blacklist information or battery status back to the smartcard. The smartcard then transmits this information back to the server via online wall readers that are able to update and receive information from the cards anytime and anywhere in the building.

The Four Seasons Hotel Washington DC security team has been able to continually add locks to back of house operations since installing the system and are moving towards the elimination of hard keys on the property. They also plan to upgrade the current SVN system to online for guest rooms in the future. Once online, they will integrate SALTO’s JustIN mobile application with the Four Seasons mobile app, which will allow guests to use their smartphone to securely access hotel rooms.
